Jesvin Boparoy

Special Counsel

Jesvin graduated from the University of Auckland with a double degree in Law and Arts, and is admitted to practise in both New Zealand and Australia. Based in Auckland, she is a seasoned civil and commercial litigation lawyer, well-regarded for providing clear and pragmatic legal advice and solutions in complex civil and commercial disputes.

Since commencing practice in May 2012, Jesvin has accumulated extensive advocacy experience in New Zealand’s District Courts, High Court, and Court of Appeal. She has also appeared before the County Court, Supreme Court, and Federal Court in the State of Victoria, Australia, handling numerous complex cases.

In addition to her courtroom expertise, Jesvin is highly skilled in alternative dispute resolution, including mediation, arbitration, and adjudication. She has successfully represented clients in resolving matters outside of court, often securing settlements that avoid the need for further litigation.

Jesvin’s areas of expertise are broad and include civil and commercial disputes, insolvency and liquidation, defamation, construction, franchise disputes, leasing, copyright protection, as well as contractual and property-related disputes. Her notable experience includes:

  • Advising insolvency practitioners on voidable transactions;
  • Representing both plaintiffs and defendants in director duties breaches, including reckless trading;
  • Acting for major property developers in high-value construction arbitrations and litigation;
  • Successfully defending clients in significant defamation proceedings;
  • Representing charitable organisations in disputes involving real property and intellectual property.

Throughout her litigation work, Jesvin has demonstrated a strong ability to work effectively with a range of expert witnesses, including forensic analysts, loss quantification experts, and construction specialists. Her meticulous approach and proven capability in managing complex matters have earned her high recognition within the legal community.

Jesvin frequently represents clients in alternative dispute resolution forums, with particular expertise in arbitration and adjudication under New Zealand’s construction contract legislation. She is committed to resolving disputes efficiently and with minimal conflict wherever possible.

Jesvin’s early legal career was equally distinguished. She interned at the War Crimes Tribunal in Vietnam, assisting judges, lawyers, and victims, and volunteered at several notable NGOs including Youth for Peace, Youth Law, and Amnesty International New Zealand. She also served as a registrar at the Weathertight Homes Tribunal. These formative experiences helped shape her profound understanding of the legal profession and contributed to her distinctive, empathetic practice style.

In 2024, Jesvin was recognised as one of New Zealand’s Elite Women in Law by NZ Lawyer and Australasian Lawyer, a prestigious honour awarded to only 30 exceptional female legal professionals across the country for their outstanding leadership, technical excellence, and contributions to the legal profession.
